Bret Slater is a painter residing in Brooklyn, NY. Born in the Bronx and raised in Westchester, NY, Slater has received a BFA from the State University of New York, Purchase College, as well as an MFA from Southern Methodist University, Meadows School of the Arts.
Slater describes his paintings as “inanimate beings with living souls”
Bret has attended artistic residencies in Turin/Italy, Lyon/France, and Taos/NM. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout Europe, as well as the United States.
In addition to painting, Bret also works as an Art Handler for a small mom & pop company in NYC, specializing in installation. Daily, he hangs priceless masterworks in the private residences of Billionaires, Millionaires, and Average Joes alike. Many of his installation skills were developed at MoMA, where Slater temped in the art handling department from 2013-16. He has also worked as studio assistant to the artist Otis Jones from 2011-13, and continued to assist Jones in his studio intermittently from 2013-18.
